Scenes from our October 20, 1998 trip to BJT

Lippy's Lowdown

October 20, 1998

14 Adults, 11 Kids, 7 Dogs, 8 motorcycles and 6 ATV’s. What a great weekend it was! Most everybody had rolled in by late Friday night, even though we had a split up camp. By Saturday AM breakfast we had all gathered together at the main camp on the MX track. The launching of the free flight helicopter was the first successful event and what fun it was. We had a brief safety meeting and then turned everyone loose. First out was David on his PW 80 with the Deen Boys in close Pursuit. The adults went on a great ride that took us into Rainbow Basin. Everyone’s bike ran great and we made it back to camp safely. Even our Rastafarian/ Caveman friend Josh, Who couldn’t find a helmet big enough to fit over his dread locks, was o.k. What a site he was with goggles over his eyes and his hair and beard blowing in the wind. The kids found a small Diamondback rattler on one of the MX tracks, and Josh happily buried the hole up. A few Rocket launches and some more helicopter flights and it was time for happy hour. With cocktails and hors d’oeuvre at Griff's Trailer we were good to go. After dinner we took all the kids for a walk to look for the "alien" space ship. Tierney supplied all the kids with light sticks, and with flashlights in hand we all set out in search of the Alien! It didn’t take long and we heard some odd noises from behind a Joshua Tree. And then, there he was! Griff dressed up in a great costume. All the small children took a few steps back and then it was David and Griffin who attacked and pulled his head off! Back to camp we went were Rick put on a great firework show. Dave, Rick and Josh had a late night ride up to the Radar station where there was a great view of the city of Barstow. Sunday morning was concluded by Betty’s great buffet breakfast for all. Everyone ate great and soon the kids were out riding again. Sunday’s highlights included the capturing of a couple of Tarantula’s by the kids, which were released when we went home. Soon the departure ceremony started and we said our good-byes. Another great weekend in the Dez! Hope to see you all soon!
